The Japanese Navy ordered the NAKAJIMA A6M2-N seaplane an adaptation of the Mitsubishi Zero-fighter plane, in early 1940. The first delivery was made in December 1941 and a total of 320 were built before production ceased in 1943. It was named the "Rufe" by the Allies and served in both the north and south Pacific theatres from the Aleutian Islands to the Solomon's. Its role was more defensive than offensive although it was well armed with two wing-mounted cannon and two machine guns in the top front of the engine cowling.

This kit contains materials for building one flying model. Contents include: accurate scale plan and illustrated step by step model building booklet, light vacuum formed parts such as nose cowl, bubble canopy and small external details, genuine decal set, scale plastic main wheels (where required), rubber motor band, plastic propeller, plastic thrust bearing, wire propeller shaft, covering tissue, razor sharp die cut balsa parts and generous quantity of strip stock .
Other items needed to build this model (not included in kit): adhesives - model airplane cement or white glue for model frame construction and white glue for tissue covering, model building tools and accessories such as work board, common pins, model builder's knife, etc
