August 1940, the height of the Battle of Britain. The Dornier 17 flies over the air fields of Essex, England ready to inflict their attack. They are intercepted by RAF Defiant fighters and engage in a deadly dogfight until one such Dornier is shot down over Goodwin Sands in Kent only to be discovered seventy years later in remarkable condition with evidence of the damage inflicted by the Defiant. Often maligned as a failure, the Boulton Paul Defiant proved its effectiveness as a night fighter during the Blitz by shooting down more enemy aircraft than any other type. Built as a turret fighter and often mistaken for Hurricanes by the Luftwaffe the Defiant pilots proved themselves in the skies over southern England during the Battle of Britain
